Dill the Giant follows up his 2021 release, WEED MAN SON, with a deluxe offering featuring remixes from Winnipeg heavy hitter producers like dead matts, Boogey the Beat, BBS Steve, Crabskull, MARCOTHATSALL, ST.ILL and international connection AF THE NAYSAYER.
The remixes serve as a reimagining of the original and was kicked off when BBS Steve sent a batch of acapellas to producers from the original project with no reference and an ask to “do your own thing.” This blind style of remixing allowed for some cool departures from the original like deadmatts Going Good that manages to take the laid back original featuring E.GG and turn it into an up-beat banger ready for the club.
Another stand out is Crabskull WEED MAN SON Discomix. Known for his dark sample-based production, Crabskull taps into his lesser known but deep love of dub reggae for a 7-minute ode to dub culture that suits the title track so perfectly. Crabskull played every instrument on the record, enlisted local legend Bad Mannas and even gave the record it’s quintessential dub-mix that is reminiscent of the greats like King Tubby and The Scientist.
