DILL THE GIANT RELEASES SINGLE “WEED MAN SON”

FIRST GENERATION JAMACIAN-CANADIAN PAYS HOMAGE TO THE ISLAND WITH LAID BACK REGGAE-FLAVOURED RAP

Dill the Giant releases “WEED MAN SON,” a single inspired by a trip to his father’s hometown in Jamaica, out today on Birthday Cake. Dill uses classic reggae and dub sounds to build a foundation for his raw lyricism.

“I had the chance to go to Jamaica with my dad and walk around where he grew up so a lot of the song is about being Jamaican and some of the stuff I learned and saw while I got the chance to be over there with my family,” Dill the Giant said. “It’s kind of a homage to the island, the culture, and my family, with the stuff I love about it,” he said.

References to tamarind, cocoa butter, rice and peas with red snapper, and dish ackee with the salt fish evoke the sensory palette of being on the island. Lifting synth pitches, guiro percussion and a classic keys chord on 2 and 4 pair suitably to place this song within a rich history of Jamacian music.
